The northern most point of Norway and an archipelago in the Artic. Under the treaty of Svalbard, the islands of Svalbard are a demilitarized zone. The main industry is coal mining, with a Russian and a Norwegian coal mining companies operating in the region. Tourism has become a secondary industry. The administrative centre for the islands is Longyearbyen.
